What is Fitrana?

Sadaqah al-Fitr (Fitrana) is an obligatory charity paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer.

  • Who Pays: The head of the household pays on behalf of themselves and all their dependents (spouse, children, etc).
  • When to Pay: It becomes obligatory at the sunset of the last day of Ramadan and must be paid before Eid prayers.
  • How Much: The rate is historically based on 1 Sa' (approx. 2.5 to 3 kg) of staple foods like wheat, barley, dates, or raisins. Enter the local monetary equivalent announced by your local mosque.
